  1. I like to visit and often photograph in graveyards as well, Markus. I enjoy reading the markers and often try to connect the dates on the markers with my limited knowledge of history to make guesses about the events this person may have seen or been part of. Then there are the markers or headstones themselves, and I wonder about the significance of their size or design, or even the placement of the graves — there are good and bad graveyard „neighborhoods“ just like with homes. If that makes me strange, I have no problem owning it. 😏

    1. A graveyard also offers a very special way of „grounding“, Earl: Imagining the passing of times and lives can help to see the own position in life much clearer. But there’s a great number of people that shy away from the certainty of mortality, and that certainly is a reason to feel uneasy on a cemetery. Also in that way, feeling easy on a cemetery can seem strange to others.

      1. I agree that at least some of the unease with graveyards comes from a fear of our own mortality. I’m enjoying the photos!

        1. Good to read this, Earl! The way we deal with death quite often also reflects our attitude toward life.
