Concrete! – Quite a contrast between the flowers and the black wall.

Juha, this hotel is one of those remnants of good old socialist times, when concrete was seen emblematic for progress.

There is quite enough of this type of architecture in Finland as well, and I’m sure some of it is being preserved as „cultural heritage“.

The problem is not the concrete itself – Calatrava does wonders of beauty with it – but the uninspired way it can get (ab-)used. And its patina also is, well, something you need to get used to.
