The benefit of letting the mower rest in spite of all the comments about the wilderness taking over: The heath spotted orchis (Dactylorhiza maculata), a rare and WASHII protected orchis, is blossoming this year for the first time in our garden.

Thanks, Earl. One needs a thick skin to ignore the expectations of the many English lawn fans, but a reward like this is definitely worth it.
