Modern architecture can be quite attractive, and I found these clear lines and shapes more appealing then a historicising reconstruction of, say, the Berlin „Stadtschloß“. Those old times are gone for good, and as we don’t want to re-live the dark sides, we shouldn’t try to re-erect old buildings that always had a specific meaning in their regime.
Auch wenn die Architektur des Regierungsviertels baukünstlerisch durchaus überzeugt, so ist sie doch gespiegelt, vielfach gebrochen und distanziert, eben so, wie Du sie hier in einem prominenten Detail präsentierst, erträglicher, vor allem in ihren Dimensionen und Proportionen fassbarer – und zugleich nur ein flüchtiges Bild, eine Momentaufnahme, die keine „Ewigkeit“ beansprucht und beanspruchen kann. PS Auch Florian (hobokollektiv) ist ein großer Freund dieser Architekur und hat sie in einigen Fotos festgehalten und auf seinem Blog veröffentlicht.
Genau dieses Zurückstehen von einer absoluten Machtsymbolik macht es auch für mich aushaltbar, ja sogar attraktiv (wobei ich mich für gute moderne Architektur immer wieder begeistern kann). Absolut(istisch)e Machtansprüche finde ich in Deutschland tendenziell noch schlimmer als anderswo.
Florians Blog kenne ich auch, wobei mich zunächst meine Liebe zum Blues neugierig gemacht hat, aber die Fotos haben mich gefangen genommen.
Beautiful! And yes, we should/must create architecture for our own time and let the future look back nostalgically (or in horror, depending) at our accomplishments.
Thanks, Michael. Architecture always shows a lot of ‚Zeitgeist‘, in positive as well as negative aspects – even the most boring suburb houses do, and if only in the absence of any will to shape. Contemporary architecture of government buildings can be similarly unmasking – often in a quite pretentious sense.
